- RWERU Green Village: Hope for better life Recently, in Batima cell, 104 families which were living in isolation on Mazane and Sharita islands on Lake Rweru in Bugesera District were resettled in a model green village. The houses of this green village are equipped with electricity, clean water and other facilities. The relocation of Mazane and Sharita residents is part of the Government programme that seeks to promote environmental friendly livelihoods while at the same time contributing to the socio-economic welfare of beneficiaries. Among 104 houses, UNDP supported the construction of 64 houses through SERPG/ VERP " Supporting Ecosystem Rehabilitation for Pro- Poor Growth and Vulnerable Ecosystem Recovery Program".
